Styling Tips...

The short cut has become an increasingly popular hairstyle for women over the last few years.  It seems as almost every other day women are doing the "big chop" and going for a more bold, invigorating look.  Ask any woman how it felt after they cut their hair off, and more often than not the answer will be something along the lines of, "I felt like a new person," or "I felt empowered by making a change and trying something new."

Another reason that short hairstyles are becoming more popular is because women are becoming more conscious of the harmful ingredients in products (such as perms) that they have been putting in their hair for years.  It is also very common for women to go for the shorter hairstyle when the weather warms up.  They don't want a lot of hair in their face during the much warmer and humid months of the year.  You also have those that have hectic schedules and prefer a hairstyle that requires as little maintenance and upkeep as possible.  Whether you fall into either of the aforementioned categories, the short hairstyle is a great choice.

There are so many variations of short hairstyles including: The length of curls, how short the sides are, color, designs, etc.  In the video shown above, however, the hair is faded relatively short on the sides and is left curly on top.  She dyed her hair blonde on top and kept the sides her natural black hair color.  Notice how there is a part (design) on the side of her head to complement the fade and give some personality to the overall look.  So now let's dive into styling tips and maintenance.

Styling Tips
When deciding on what type of short hairstyle to get, take note of your head shape and consider options that will complement that.  If you're the type to play it safe, you can go with a soft, tapered style.  If you're the type of person that likes to make statements and express your personality through your hairstyle, go bold and add color or try different designs.  Eventually as you experiment with different styles, you grow to know what works and what doesn't work for you.

Maintenance
The beauty of short hairstyles is that they require very little maintenance to look good.  Here I will give you a simple regimen to use:

1. Wet/dampen the hair.  This makes the hair easier to manipulate curls

2. Apply a hair sheen or oil to add shine to the hair.  Argan, olive, and peppermint oils are some good choices to name a few.

3. Massage a styling cream, gel, or moisturizer into the hair.

4. Manipulate the curls into the desired pattern.  A product that I strongly recommend using is the "Twist it Up" comb.  Unlike hair sponges, this product doesn't cause hair products and loose hair to build up into it.  Hair sponges can easily become unsanitary.  However, with this device, it is easy to clean and allows you to twist the hair up with little to no effort.  You can purchase this product on Amazon, or  www.twistitupcomb.com
