If you're a beginner barber, designs can be a bit intimidating to take on. Many times barbers look at designs and see this complex, big picture. In actuality, designs all stem from a basic concept: drawing lines and circles. No matter the design, there is some variation of lines or circles or both. The key to getting a good design is to simplify the steps as much as possible.
One key thing to note before starting a design is to know how much space you are working with. You don't want to start out making a design too big only to find out that you don't have as much space to work with as you thought. This could lead to a disaster. On the contrary, you don't want to make a design too small if you have an ample amount of space to work with. One thing that I would recommend if you don't trust yourself just yet, is to purchase a magic barber pencil. This pencil can be used to sketch in the design into the hair first, and then you trace in the design with your trimmer.
